49ers’ 23-17 Win Sets a Monday Night Football Record
San Francisco held off Washington to reach 6-0, with a late sack sealing a win that gave the 49ers the most Monday Night Football victories in NFL history.

The San Francisco 49ers beat the Washington Commanders 23-17 on October 19 to move to 6-0 and take sole possession of the NFL record for Monday Night Football wins. The victory was San Francisco’s 56th on the program, moving it ahead of Pittsburgh, according to the 49ers’ game recap.
San Francisco led 20-3 at halftime, but Washington cut the margin to six in the fourth quarter. With six seconds left and the Commanders facing third-and-22, defensive linemen Romello Height and Keion White sacked Jayden Daniels for an 18-yard loss, ending the rally.
The late stop capped a game in which the 49ers defense also held Washington to 53 rushing yards. Safety Malik Mustapha broke up a fourth-down pass in the final two minutes, and Christian McCaffrey scored twice in the first half.
The game also marked a statistical threshold for quarterback Brock Purdy. He reached 1,500 career pass attempts, making him eligible for the NFL’s all-time passer-rating leaderboard; the 49ers report his 105.6 career rating is now the highest on that list. That ranking is tied to the official qualification threshold, rather than a single-game mark.
San Francisco’s next game is at Atlanta on October 25, according to the team schedule. The result leaves the 49ers unbeaten through six games, while Washington’s comeback fell short on the final defensive play.
