Xbox opened Mythic Achievements to Insiders on September 29, 2026, and the rule behind the badge is narrower than the name suggests. You earn one by finishing every original achievement in a game. Achievements that arrive later through DLC or updates are not required, and a game that reaches Mythic status keeps it.

The badge is also retroactive. Xbox says Mythic Achievements have already been added to eligible games that players completed in the past, including Xbox 360 titles, so a profile may already hold badges for games finished years ago. There is still no date for anyone outside the Insider program.

The announcement comes from Alex Charters, a senior product manager at Xbox, and Eden Marie, a principal software engineering lead, writing on Xbox Wire.

What the Gaming tab adds

Your profile now has a Gaming tab. It collects your achievements, tracks your next Gamerscore milestone badge and lists the games you have completed. Games that reached Mythic status carry what the post calls a heroic frame in that history, so the number of badges is visible without opening each game.

The same tab exists on a friend's profile, which shows what they have finished and which games they have taken to Mythic, so the count is visible to other players as well.

The rule that decides whether a game counts

A Mythic Achievement uses a game's original achievement list rather than achievements added later.

The practical effect is that an unfinished expansion cannot hold a Mythic back. A player who finished a game at launch and skipped three content updates still qualifies, and the extra achievements from those updates are marked as add-on so they are not counted against the badge.

A progress bar now sits at the top of each game's achievement list. It shows how close the game is to Mythic status, and the same screen offers an option to focus only on the original achievements that are still missing. Similar progress information appears in the Guide and in achievement details.

A solid amber path leads to a generic achievement medal while a separate teal path curves away, beneath the words ORIGINAL LIST and DLC NOT REQUIRED.

Why finished Xbox 360 games already show up

The retroactive pass is the part of the announcement that reaches furthest back. Including Xbox 360 titles means the scan covers achievement lists that were written for hardware from two generations ago, and the post does not describe how those lists were matched or how long the pass took.

If a badge is missing on a game you finished, the post offers no troubleshooting steps. It points Insiders to their community instead: feedback goes through a Microsoft feedback page for player voice, and questions go to the Xbox Insider subreddit, where Xbox staff and moderators answer alongside other testers.

What Insiders are reporting in the first two weeks

Early threads in the Insider community describe cases where the badge has not appeared. One tester reported a completed game stuck at 96 percent. A Final Fantasy XVI poster initially saw a 49/50 tracker, then edited the post to say a later update unlocked the badge. Another tester said Dying Light and Minecraft: Xbox One Edition still lacked badges. A PC player said an in-game Mythic popup appeared in INSIDE while their profile and mobile app did not show it.

These are individual reports from test builds rather than a confirmed platform fault, and Xbox's post lists no known issues. They point at the hardest part of the design: a retroactive scan has to match every achievement list on the service, and those lists were built by studios over two decades with no shared standard.

Those individual reports show where preview users are uncertain; they do not measure how often a badge fails or how many players use Mythic.

How to get into the test

Mythic Achievements are limited to the Insider program for now. The post points anyone who wants in to the Xbox Insider Hub, available for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles and for Windows PC, alongside a support page that explains the program.

The post describes no setting to switch on. The profile tab, the frames and the progress bar are part of the Insider update, which is why the community threads treat a missing badge as something to report rather than something to configure.

What Xbox has not said

The post never mentions Gamerscore, so a reader cannot tell from it whether a Mythic adds points. It gives no public release date for players outside the Insider rings. The announcement gives no device-by-device rollout list for profile changes. The profile and mobile-app display status remains unclear. The post also does not address games whose achievement lists contain discontinued or currently unobtainable entries, a case raised in one of the larger community threads as an older complaint about achievement tracking.

The announcement does not explain why Xbox chose the original list as the threshold.
