Amazon Confirms Stores Job Cuts; Reuters Reports Fewer Than 1,000 Roles
Amazon said the latest cuts affected a small number of roles, mainly in its Stores business. Reuters reported a source estimate below 1,000 white-collar jobs, while the company has not published an exact total or a full list of teams.

Amazon confirmed another round of job cuts focused mainly on its Stores division, which oversees the company’s main e-commerce website, according to Reuters’ report. The company called the affected roles a small number. A person familiar with the matter told Reuters the total was fewer than 1,000 white-collar employees; Amazon has not announced an exact count.
The timing drew attention because the cuts were reported during Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days promotion, which ran October 6 and 7. A spokesperson said the company had adjusted parts of Stores’ structure to better deliver on its priorities. Amazon did not name the teams or locations in its statement.
What Amazon confirmed and what Reuters reported
Amazon’s statement, quoted by Reuters, says the changes affect parts of the Stores business. A source familiar with the cuts told Reuters that fewer than 1,000 white-collar employees were affected. That estimate is separate from the company’s description of the number as small; Amazon did not confirm the figure.
Reuters said it reviewed internal Slack posts shared by affected employees. Those posts suggested that customer service and selling-partner services were among the divisions involved, and that employees in the United States, India and the United Kingdom received notices. Amazon has not published a complete unit-by-unit or country-by-country breakdown, so the reported examples should not be read as a full list.
The description “small number” leaves room for interpretation. A figure below 1,000 could still affect many teams, while the company did not give a percentage of the Stores workforce or confirm how many employees were included. Without a company total, the public cannot compare this round with a division’s full headcount.
How this fits the prior restructuring
Reuters described the Stores reductions as part of a series of smaller cuts after a larger round of 30,000 job cuts that began in 2025 and continued into January 2026. That earlier figure covers a different period; it is not a new company-wide target or a confirmed total for the October round. Amazon has not said whether any roles outside Stores are included in the latest count.
Amazon’s public notices for the earlier rounds were more detailed. In October 2025, the company said it would reduce its corporate workforce by about 14,000 roles and described internal transfers and transition support. In January 2026, Amazon announced about 16,000 additional roles and said most U.S.-based employees would have 90 days to seek an internal job. Those terms belong to the earlier announcements; Amazon has not said whether the October Stores cuts follow the same process.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos discussed the earlier 30,000 cuts in a Fox News interview aired the same day. Reuters reported that he linked those reductions to the company having hired too many workers during the pandemic. That comment addressed the previous round; Amazon’s current statement attributed the Stores changes to a different structural adjustment and did not cite the same explanation.
What workers and customers can infer
Amazon has identified the Stores division as the main focus and described the action as limited. It has not published a list of roles, offices or affected countries, a separation package or a transfer timetable. Reuters did not report a Store closure or a change to the website’s availability. Whether customer service levels, seller support or other operations will change requires more detail from the company or affected employees.
An r/technology discussion drew concern about job security and questions about who could be affected. It showed 569 points in the captured sample. That is one public community’s reaction, not an employee poll or a reliable headcount.
